Google FB plans to build a super high speed fiber optic cable with a Chinese company

On October 13th, according to foreign media reports, Google and Facebook will cooperate with a Chinese company to build an ultrafast fiber optic cable between Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

Investing in the above projects with US technology giants is a newly established Hong Kong company called Pacific Light Data CommunicaTIon Co.

The 12,800-kilometer Pacific Light Cable Network will use the latest fiber technology to support the largest network capacity in the region. The system is expected to be launched in 2018.

The financial terms of the project were not disclosed.

Wei Junkang, chairman of Pacific Cable Data Communications, said that global technology companies such as Google and Facebook are welcome to become co-investors in the project.

The Pacific Cable Data Communications has not previously had experience building networks. The company paid $11.3 million earlier this year to acquire shares in the project from China Soft Power Technology Group Co., Ltd. According to the company's documents, the chairman of China's soft power is the son of Wei Junkang.
